Sure, Anna Karenina’s about to go into production, but Universal isn’t done announcing its big Oscar movies for next year. Deadline reports that the Tom Hooper–helmed musical Les Misérables will bow in theaters on December 7, 2012 — and yes, Hugh Jackman and Russell Crowe have been confirmed as the leads, Jean Valjean and Inspector Javert. It’s anticipated that Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D adaptation of The Great Gatsby will also get a winter 2012 berth, making that season absolutely ideal for high school students looking for a way to skip the required reading in English class.
