Nicholas Sparks, the author of movies like The Notebook, Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, and Dear John (fine, they were weepie best-selling books before they were movies), has sold a drama pitch to ABC. The show, which will be called The Watchers, is about the Archangel Raphael, who cuts off his wings to be with a mortal (hello, Wings of Desire and its American adaptation City of Angels), only to have said mortal die, leaving Not-angel Raphael to walk around the world, sad, lonely, wingless, but still able to perform miracles. We’re imagining Ryan Raphael, all bearded in his grief, screaming at the ghost of his dead love, “It was never over!” before banging her against the wall and getting sold on this as a concept for a TV show.
