Producer Would Like to See Some More of That English Patient Money

English patient Ralph Fiennes.

Remember The English Patient? Great movie! Also: very successful. Besides dominating the 1996 Academy Awards, the windswept WWII epic grossed over $300 million worldwide. You’d think everyone involved would have walked away happy, but it turns out that producer Saul Zaentz has spent the last fifteen years stewing over his cut. In 2006, he sued the film’s distributor, Miramax, and Disney (which owned Miramax, back in the day) over what his legal team described as hidden profits from the film. That case was dismissed, but Zaentz hasn’t given up. On Thursday, he filed another similar lawsuit seeking $20 million. The situation actually feels pretty appropriate: After all, if there’s one thing The English Patient teaches viewers, it’s that the past is always with us. [Deadline]
