Last night’s premiere of Ringer marked Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to television, now as danger twins Siobhan and Bridget. In one important scene from the show, the sisters — long estranged — decide to take a good ole sibling-y speedboat ride to get reacquainted, but instead of a leisurely cruise, they took a wrong turn and found themselves in the Sea of Bad Production Values. They might have gotten stuck in the Comically Phony Visual Effects trade wind and been unable to navigate the difficult waters of the Fake Backdrop Strait. (Viewers using Twitter seemed to agree.) Here’s hoping Ringer steers to safety, though: The show has all the makings of a fun, sudsy identity-swapping drama, like if Dave or Parent Trap got really, really dark.
