SNL Rounds Out Its New Season Hires with Writers Zach Kanin and Peter Schultz

The SNL crew is back to work today, with the first episode of season 37 airing this Saturday, and two more new writers have been added to the staff: Zach Kanin and Peter Schultz.

Zach Kanin is a former editor of the Harvard Lampoon and a contributing cartoonist to The New Yorker (we actually wrote about him about a year ago). He also wrote The Short Book, about being short (he’s 5’3”). His hire keeps the number of Harvard dudes on staff even, as Crimson alum Simon Rich left the show after last season to go write a movie at Pixar. Gotta keep that Harvard quota filled!

Peter Schultz will be writing for Weekend Update, and he comes from the UCB Theatre and sketch groups Black Habanero and Bobby Chicago, the latter of which he’s on with current SNL writer Christine Nangle. I’m not sure how tall he is.

These guys will be joining previously announced hires Sarah Schneider and Chris Kelly on staff. Congrats and good luck to all!
