Strong New Girl Premiere Ratings Weren’t a Fluke

Fox’s New Girl really is a hit. Week two of the Zooey Deschanel comedy held up incredibly well in the ratings Tuesday, finishing as the No. 1 show of the night on any network in adults 18 to 9 with a 4.4 rating and 9.2 million viewers overall. That’s down just 8 percent from last week’s unexpectedly big premiere, and a sign viewers liked what they saw in the pilot. Look for Fox to give the show a full-season order within the next two weeks, particularly since New Girl once again outrated its lead-in, Glee (3.6 demo rating). Meanwhile, CBS’s new drama Unforgettable held up reasonably well: Its 12.5 million viewers and 2.5 demo rating were off about 15 percent from premiere week, but still good enough for first in the tough 10 p.m. time slot.
