DC Comics’ Relaunch Actually Selling More Comic Books

Longtime fans of DC Comics, whose stable of superheroes includes the Dark Knight and Man of Steel, were understandably upset when the company announced this summer that it would be restarting all 52 of its titles to attract a new generation of readers, as if the last 70 years of evolving story lines simply hadn’t happened. But in the five weeks since the first new No. 1 titles began coming out, sales have boomed: The Justice League’s fresh start sold more than 200,000 copies, compared to 46,000 pre-reboot, reports the New York Times, with nine other titles selling upwards of 100,000 copies each, a benchmark comic-book publishers hadn’t reached in many years.
