Back in January, the Decemberists’ latest album, The King Is Dead, hit No. 1 on the Billboard charts — a somewhat unexpected achievement for a Portland indie-folk outfit who makes videos based on David Foster Wallace games. But the band didn’t pack up and call it a year: They released an iTunes session back in August, and their upcoming EP, Long Live the King, will be out next week. (Colin Meloy also took some time there to write a YA novel.) Long Live the King, comprised of outtakes from the King Is Dead recording sessions, includes the just-released “E. Watson” and a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Row Jimmy,” but Vulture can now exclusively offer you a first listen of another track: the lilting, slightly honky-tonk “Foregone.” Check it out below!
