Unsurprisingly, actor and part-time liberal activist Sean Penn does not think very highly of the tea party. In an appearance on Piers Morgan Tonight, Penn said that the far-right movement is largely fueled by hatred of Barack Obama. “You have what I call the ‘Get the N-word out of the White House party,’ the tea party. This kind of sensibility, which is much more of a distraction.” He went on to speculate that most tea partiers would be “confused” if asked to explain their position on topics such as Social Security, adding, “At the end of the day, there’s a big bubble coming out of their heads, saying, ‘Can we just lynch him?’” [THR]
