Bridesmaids Might Have a Shot at Winning the Comedy World Some Oscars

Comedies have historically been as out of place on the stage of the Oscars as an octopus on a potato farm. As recently as 2009, Zach Galifianakis was overlooked for his great supporting performance in The Hangover. But Judd Apatow, at least, thinks that things could be different this year. “We’re very hopeful about Melissa McCarthy in Supporting,” he said. “Kristen Wiig should get recognition too.” In addition to the acting categories, there’s even some talk of a Best Picture nomination for Bridesmaids. And why not? In the words of Kristen Wiig, “…I think ultimately it’s about the story and characters. You have to care about them or you’re not going to care about the movie whether it is comedy or drama.” Yep.
