David Milch will be tackling William Faulkner’s works for HBO, the parties announced today, with Milch extending his HBO contract and signing a deal with Faulkner’s estate. The agreement covers all of Faulkner’s work (except for pieces that are already optioned elsewhere), and Milch’s adaptations could be shows, mini-series, or movies. Milch and Faulkner go together like decaying societies and muddy underpants: Perfectly. Both shift perspectives and voices, both examine the ways we hold our small societies together, and both create somehow beautiful characters that illuminate facets of misery (but sometimes victory) you didn’t even know existed. Consider the prestige-o-meter broken!
