Oprah Winfrey and James Earl Jones will both receive honorary Oscars this weekend, but they were both more than a bit surprised to get the nod. “I am primarily not a film actor — that’s what’s so ironic about [this honorary Oscar]!” Jones told the Hollywood Reporter. “I’m still a novice in film work … I haven’t found that character that I can say, ‘Yeah, that represents me and the best I can do.’” For her part, Winfrey says she gets why people were skeptical of the announcement. “I understood it because I was equally surprised,” she said. “I was surprised because I am not known as an actress.” Still, Winfrey does feel that she’s earned her Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award: “I understand people thinking, ‘Where’s her list of credentials for films,’ but I don’t think there’s room for criticism in the do-good department.”
