After the Black Eyed Peas’ not-awesome Super Bowl halftime show last year, the Super Bowl halftime show people are dipping back into the lately preferred bin of showbiz chestnuts and enlisting Madonna. Rumors of the Madge-time show percolated in late October, although Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. were in the mix at that point, which isn’t something the official announcement mentions. But in the event of a Minaj-less halftime show, Madonna’s at least set to team with Cirque du Soleil.
The Super Bowl XLVI gig is handily timed for Madonna, as her movie W.E. drops two days before the big game. It’ll also be a wonderful or horrible launchpad for her upcoming album.
