National Film Registry Welcomes Hannibal Lecter and Forrest Gump

Silence of the Lambs, Forrest Gump, Bambi, Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid, and more are heading to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry. Culled from 2,228 nominees elected by the public, 25 new films will enter the pantheon this year. The selections were recognized based on their “enduring significance to American culture,” said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington.

We want to be happy for Forrest & Co., but after that whole thing about the Library of Congress saving all the tweets ever, it’s just not as special.
