A few months back, when the very frank Thomas Jane told Vulture that his Hung character would never go gay, his controversial choice of words. (“I told HBO, the year I end up with a penis in my mouth is the last year of the show”) got him in a little trouble with the gay community. To make up for that quote, Jane opened up to the L.A. Times about his time as a homeless 18-year-old in L.A., suggesting that he used to moonlight as a gay prostitute. (That quote: “I was 18. I wasn’t averse to going down to Santa Monica Boulevard and letting a guy buy me a sandwich. Know what I mean?”) Most people did, in fact, think they knew what he meant, but Jane claims the comments were misconstrued. “In the interviews that I did, I never said I was a prostitute. I was talking about my [early] time in Hollywood: I said that I’d had a sexually adventurous time and I was trying to relate that to how I play a prostitute on TV.” So: “Buying a sandwich” is not a euphemism we’re using just yet (unless you are referencing “adventure.”)
