VH1 is making a TLC biopic, the network announced today, with Kate Lanier (What’s Love Got to Do With It, Glitter) writing the screenplay and Chilli and T-Boz serving as consultants. We were just talking about how TLC has the best Behind the Music ever, and now this! The TLC TV movie will be the first of many such projects, according to the announcement, though no other bands or artists were named as potential biopic subjects. TLC’s story itself is pretty foolproof — the rise to fame, the in-fighting, the house fire, the bankruptcy, Lisa Lopes’s death — so this movie really hinges on casting. It’s hard to find actresses who are crazy, sexy, and cool.
