Salman Rushdie Now Thinks Assassination Plot Made Up

An Indian newspaper, The Hindu, yesterday broke the story that underworld hit men hired to kill Salman Rushdie were actually just a ruse by local Rajasthan police officials to keep the author — infamous for his banned Satanic Verses — away from the Jaipur Literary Festival. “I’ve investigated, & believe that I was indeed lied to,” Rushdie wrote on Twitter last night. “I am outraged and very angry.”
