Woody Allen Writing Bullets Over Broadway Musical

If Mel Brooks had success mining his back catalogue for Broadway musicals, surely Woody Allen can, too? Producers announced today that Allen is co-writing (with Douglas McGrath) a stage version of his 1994 film Bullets Over Broadway, a theater-set comedy that won Dianne Wiest an Oscar. The tunes for the show (which should debut on Broadway next year) will come from pre-exisiting Prohibition-era classics, so sorry, guys: This seems to mean that there won’t be any sort of No Doubt/“Don’t Speak” crossover. But it seemed like such a gimme!
