The movie-to-musical machine has cranked out another curious proposition: an Animal House musical, with a score by Barenaked Ladies. Universal Pictures Stage Division announced today that they’re developing Animal House: The Musical, with a libretto from Michael Mitnick (Sex Lives of Our Parents), and directed and choreographed by The Book of Mormon’s Casey Nicholaw. Just when you think the world can’t surprise you, bam! Here comes Animal House: The Musical, with music by Barenaked Ladies. We look forward — sort of — to the jaunty, lyrically nimble number “Was It Over (When the Germans Bombed Pearl Harbor)?”
