Though Woody Allen’s six-year onscreen absence will be rectified with this summer’s Nero Fiddled, you’d have to scroll back to 2000 to find an example of Allen acting without writing and directing (two exmaples, actually: Company Man and Picking Up the Pieces). Now he’ll amend that record by starring in John Turturro’s Fading Gigolo, a film about Allen and Turturro starting up an escort business together and raising eyebrows in their Hasidic community. Sharon Stone has been cast and Sofia Vergara is in talks to join. Final factoid: Turturro and Allen’s characters assume the pseudonyms Virgil and Bongo. Yes, this should be funny.
