NBC has ordered a new reality series called White Elephant, a globe-trotting quest in which rival conservationists battle to establish the greatest pachyderm sanctuaries the world has ever known. Ah, we kid. The show is a more lucrative version of the the game white elephant that people play at office holiday parties, where you can “steal” someone else’s gift or open one of the still-wrapped presents. Howie Mandel will serve as host and executive producer, because sure. All the packages will be worth millions of dollars, either in money or in prizes, and the contestant left with the least valuable prize at the end of the round is eliminated, until the final two contestants square off in a “prisoner’s dilemma” of prize selection. Game theory: It’s fun for people of all ages.
