It can’t be easy to go up against The Avengers on May 4, but in its own way, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel can field a superhero lineup, as it stars British acting veterans Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, a Downton Abbey–elevated Maggie Smith, and Tom Wilkinson, among several others. (We all know that Judi Dench would be the Iron Man of the group. Incontrovertible.) Adapted from Deborah Moggach’s novel These Foolish Things, Dench & Co. play British retirees who decide to move to exotic India to live out their twilight years, but their destination, the “glamorous” Marigold Hotel (run by Dev Patel), isn’t quite up to snuff. In this exclusive clip, Dench enlists Bill Nighy to see if he can get her malfunctioning phone to work, and though he doesn’t have much luck, the two do seem to strike some sparks together.
