After Matt Groening unleashed a firestorm last week by acknowledging that the hometown of the Simpsons was based on Springfield, Oregon – if in name only – he and the writers shot back last night with, what has long been the most powerful weapon in their arsenal, Bart’s chalkboard scrawl: “The true location of Springfield is in any state but yours.” The kings have spoken so back to the stables for the rest of us or at least until Groening accidently reveals Mr. Burns’s definite age.
