Ed Helms’s “fun side thing” is apparently going to become a real thing when his bluegrass group Lonesome Trio releases its debut album. The band is comprised of Helms and two of his friends from Oberlin College. Helms jams the banjo. The album isn’t done yet, and they still need to figure out if they want to sign with a label or self-release. “We’ve been laying down some demos and kicking them back and forth,” said Helms, who co-founded The L.A. Bluegrass Situation, a musical festival that will be held for the third time this weekend. “We’ve been been playing together so long, we have so many original tunes. We’ve made recordings for friends and family for years but we’ve never done a proper album.” How about a bluegrass version of “Zombie“?
