Sons of Anarchy showrunner Kurt Sutter — who became 2011’s most vocal pundit on AMC’s sticky budget situation by saying things like “no one else wants to fucking say it, but the greed of Mad Men is killing the other two best shows on TV — Breaking Bad and Walking Dead” — would like you to know he actually loves Mad Men. In an excerpt from a new interview with the Huffington Post, Sutter heaps alarming amounts of praise on Matt Weiner’s baby. “I love Mad Men. Look, I think it’s a brilliant fucking show. I watch those episodes and I think each season [Weiner] pushes it a little bit further and his storytelling gets more and more interesting,” Sutter says. “I know there’s this perceived beef between Matt and I because of things I said … and I always tried to qualify that by saying that I don’t know the guy and this is not against him personally.”
Sutter then says Mad Men, the show he once acerbically claimed “gutted AMC,” is “superior” in the acting, writing, and directing departments, has “become iconic,” deserves all its many accolades, is “a beautiful show to look at,” is “incredibly creatively fulfilling,” and “right up there on the DVR for me.” Whoa.
