Shadow of the Colossus Lands Chronicle Director Josh Trank

Shadow of the Colossus is a 2005 video game with a premise that tends to go, “You just fight all these huuuuge bosses the size of like, planets and skyscrapers — but it’s really artsy.” (Non-gamers: It’s what you saw Adam Sandler playing all through his 2007 Bob Dylan lookalike film Reign Over Me. No? Still nothing?) Now it’s being adapted into a major production by Sony Pictures, who have tapped Josh Trank, the director behind this year’s low-budget found-footage superhero flick Chronicle. Deadline reports Trank, a longtime fan of the game, pursued the project and that he has “become the go to guy for big popcorn pictures,” as he’s already developing a new Fantastic Four and a Spider-Man villain spinoff about Venom. In a description of the game, Deadline notes the objective is to “slay sixteen colossi,” which is super fun to read.
