Arsenio Hall Is Coming Back to Late Night. Will People Care?

Arsenio Hall, the king of Woof Woof Woofing on late night TV from 1989-1994, is set to Woof his way back into America’s hearts with a brand new late night show. Like his original Arsenio Hall Show, it’ll be produced by CBSTVD and syndicated, meaning it’ll be on different channels depending on where you live. Right now the plan has it set to “launch on 17 stations including WPIX New York and KTLA Los Angeles at 11 p.m. and WGN Chicago at 10 p.m.” Expect it to debut early next year.

The real question is whether or not people are still interested in Arsenio, or the late night format in general. It’ll have been 19 years since he went off the air when his new show debuts, and while CBSTVD president John Nogawski said that his original “18-34 audience is now right in the middle of the late-night core audience of 35-54,” that audience has probably become loyal to a different late night show over the past two decades, or stopped watching late night talk shows altogether. Will Arsenio mix up the format enough to get people interested, or will it be another cookie cutter late night show banking on the reputation of a guy who’s been out of the spotlight since the early 90s? We’ll see!
