Pioneering French filmmaker Chris Marker has died, French officials confirmed to the AP. He was 91. Marker’s influence extends from essay to abstract films, and his 1962 28-minute postapocalypse movie Le Jetee remains one of the staples of experimental cinema. (It was remade into Twelve Monkeys in 1995.) Marker’s most recent work was a 2008 digital piece called Immemory, a CD-ROM that contains over twenty hours of material.
