Dan Harmon’s Post-Community Plan: ‘Have Less Ideas’

So Marc Maron is guest-hosting Attack of the Show and looking quite dapper, and today he spoke with unceremoniously ousted Community showrunner Dan Harmon. What’s the story Harmon’s telling about the breakup? “I felt like I’ve created enough,” Harmon jokes, although with an intense, probably wistful look in his eyes. “‘Three years, you take it from here.’ Sony and NBC said, ‘Please don’t go,’ and I said, ‘I … really, I have to, I have to go home, I’m doing a lot of renovations on my house.’”

Harmon’s not without a plan to get back into the “populist, derivative, democratic medium” he dubs television, though. “My idea is to have less ideas, because I want to be successful in television,” he says of his eventual Community follow-up. “I turned off 90 percent of my brain when I said, ‘What if a guy goes to community college and blah blah blah?’”
