The 2012 Emmy nominations are out, and they’re chock full of pretty excellent choices in the comedy world. Modern Family has a boatload of nominations, as usual, getting a nod for best comedy series, six different supporting actor/actress nominations, and a bunch of others. Some more surprising nominations include Community’s first nomination, for Chris McKenna’s writing of “Remedial Chaos Theory.” Girls had a great showing, getting nominated for best comedy series as well as Lena Dunham getting nominations for acting, writing and directing. Louie got in there again with nominations for lead actor, writing and directing, and Louis CK’s Live at the Beacon Theater got nominated for Outstanding Special Class Program. As for Parks and Rec, Amy Poehler was nominated for best lead actress, and it received two writing nominations, both for “The Debate,” which Poehler wrote, and the finale, which showrunner Michael Schur wrote.
SNL had some pretty fun nominations for itself, including Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader each receiving best actress/actor in a comedy series nominations, with Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Jimmy Fallon all getting nominated for their hosting stints. And it also got nominated for best writing in a variety series, along with The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Real Time with Bill Maher and…Portlandia. So Fred Armisen is up against himself in that category, but as The Daily Show has won it for I believe the last 60 straight years, it shouldn’t be an issue.
