‘How I Met Your Mother’ Executive Producer to Attempt a Single-Cam Pilot for CBS

Over the last 15 years, many people have tried to bring a single-cam sitcom safely to CBS’s shores and they all eventually failed.  Most recently, Nick Stoller almost got his pilot, Entry Level, picked up for next season but ultimately CBS felt it didn’t fit with the rest of their shows. Well, now How I Met Your Mother executive producer Rob Greenberg is going to take his crack at it with Ex-Men, a show about a young guy who moves into a short-term rental complex and is taken under the wing of the older dudes who live there. Other than producing and directing episodes of HIMYM (including the legen…wait for it…dary “Ducky Tie”), Greenberg has directed episodes of Happy Endings and used to write for Frasier. The pilot is the first purchased for the 2013-2014 season, so maybe in the distant future everything will be different: up will be down, black will be white, and CBS will air a single-camera sitcom.
