Davis, one of the first writers hired at Saturday Night Live (along with his writing and sometimes performing partner Al Franken), was one of the minds behind classic sketches like “Coneheads” and Dan Aykroyd’s Julia Child impersonation. (He also co-wrote Coneheads, the movie.) Davis died of throat and neck cancer, according to his wife, Mimi Raleigh. He was 59.
