Liz Meriwether tells Entertainment Weekly that next season on The New Girl Jess will lose her teaching job. Last season, her job was really the only thing that wasn’t in a constant state of disarray, so next year expect all disarray all the time. Meriwether:
“She’s having to restart her life and figure out who she is and what she wants to do. I think we’re going to take our time and figure out what she wants and let her have a moment of questioning who she is, why she’s a teacher, and if that’s really what she wants to do.”
Meriwether also revealed that this means a lot more experimentation both professionally and with dudes. Ultimately, this move makes a lot of sense. Jess as this adorable/adorkable twee teacher fit more with the original version of the character in which she was a naïve, prudish dork and less the more open, confident (albeit still a bit weird) character she was later in the season. It’s a smart move, just as long as she doesn’t decide to become a singer, which would be gross and obvious and sound like a beautiful frog.
