In Ruby Sparks, Paul Dano is a blocked novelist who writes a fictional version of his dream girl (Zoe Kazan, the film’s writer and Dano’s offscreen girlfriend) and then watches her become real before his very eyes. How real, you might be wondering? Real enough to take home to Mom, a hippie-dippie “We leave the doors open in this house” type played by none other than Annette Bening. Vulture has an exclusive first look at this family meeting below, and if you like what you see (and you live in L.A.), there will be another sneak peek at next week’s Sparks at the Park event with Zoe Kazan. Ruby Sparks opens July 25. Enjoy!
