Lifetime’s Betty and Coretta film just scored Angela Bassett as its Coretta Scott King. The film will center on Coretta as well as Malcolm X’s widow Dr. Betty Shabazz, detailing the two single mothers carrying on after the assassinations of their husbands. Interesting casting, as Bassett played Shabazz in Spike Lee’s Malcolm X back in 1992; Mary J. Blige will play her this time around. Ruby Dee will also appear in a narrator capacity.
