A&E aimed high for the first piece of key casting on the network’s new Psycho prequel series, Bates Motel: For the part of Norma Louise Bates, mother to you-know-who, the network scored Vera Farmiga, nominated for an Oscar for 2009’s Up in the Air. Executive producer Carlton Cuse (Lost) still hasn’t signed an actor to play Norman Bates, but if a boy’s best friend is his mother, that lucky guy has a good pal already.
