Keep the Lights On Trailer: Two Men Weather Drugs, Drama, and Desire

In Brokeback Mountain, the last decade-spanning gay screen romance of note, one cowboy spoke the resonant line, “I wish I knew how to quit you.” For the two men whose romance is at the center of the new film Keep the Lights On, quitting is doubly hard: The bond of their love is tough to sever, even though one of them can’t quit the crack habit that chips away at it. We profiled the film this weekend, putting a spotlight on actor Zachary Booth and director Ira Sachs, but mention should be made of lead Thure Lindhart, a great Dane who delivers a knockout turn as a man who can’t give up on his boyfriend, no matter what happens. It’s one of the most impressive performances of the year.
