“Many times, yeah.” That’s how Paul Thomas Anderson answered a question from HuffPo about how often he feared for Joaquin Phoenix’s safety while filming The Master. The director said Phoenix regularly flirted with injury, whether he was smashing a toilet, getting restrained by cops or bouncing off the walls of a courtroom. Not that PTA discouraged him though. “That’s kind of what you want, hopefully within reason,” he said. “He’ll get over it.”
