Two Bridesmaids alums, actress Rebel Wilson and co-writer Annie Mumolo, just sold their own movie projects to major studios. Deadline broke the news that Rebel Wilson sold a pitch to Universal for an untitled comedy that she will write, produce, and act in. No plot details are known at this time. Wilson is on the rise after appearances in Bridesmaids, Bachelorette, and most recently, Pitch Perfect. In the second Bridesmaids-related movie sale of the week, Kristen Wiig’s writing partner Annie Mumolo, with whom she scored Oscar nominations for Bridesmaids’ screenplay, sold a movie too. The project, based on the life story of Joy Mangano, follows a single mom trying to make ends meet who turns her life around by inventing a self-wringing mop that becomes a Home Shopping Network phenomenon. Inventing a best-selling mop is almost as impressive and unlikely as scoring an Academy Award nomination for writing a movie that contains a lengthy diarrhea-and-vomit scene.
