Ian McKellen was born to play J.R.R. Tolkien’s Gandalf — but maybe just the once. “It was a little like going back to something that wasn’t necessarily going to be particularly challenging,” McKellen told THR of his somewhat reluctant decision to reprise the role for Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy. “Gandalf is still inside me, as it were, so the business of getting to know a new character — I was sort of going to be robbed of that.” Thanks in advance for biting the bullet anyway, sir.
