Adam McKay Spills Some ‘Anchorman 2’ Beans

Adam McKay revealed some juicy tidbits about the Anchorman sequel during an interview with The Playlist promoting Fully Loaded, a new movie he’s producing. McKay says that Anchorman 2 will have a big musical number, elaborating “This one might have a little more movement in it, and the only problem with that is the actors get winded.” McKay continues, “We were going to do Anchorman 2 as a Broadway musical first, for like six months and then go shoot the movie. That was our initial idea.” McKay and Ferrell are no stranger to Broadway, their play You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush was a big hit in 2009. The sequel’s plot, according to McKay, will involve Ron Burgundy and his crew coming in conflict with some 24-hour news network pioneers.

The original Anchorman is impressive for the deep bench of talented comedic actors Adam McKay packed in, and it looks like the sequel will be no exception. McKay says, “We’re talking about for Anchorman 2 creating a murderer’s row of the best day players ever. Like having every single one line or three line role, just be someone we just love. Someone like Ian Roberts or Rob Huebel or Paula Killen – just making sure every day player is a homerun.” McKay and Ferrell are currently re-writing the movie now, with a March 2013 start date set for filming, so you can expect to be tortured by another two year’s worth of amazing updates and rumors before the movie finally comes out.
