Even though the internet is basically one giant 24/7 Community convention at this point, fans of the cult hit NBC sitcom are banding together to throw a real life convention for the show, one that involves people leaving their bedrooms and screens behind to talk about the show in real life for once. The first-ever Community convention, dubbed ComuniCon, will be held in L.A. on February 9th and 10th, 2013, according to an announcement on the event’s Tumblr page. Those dates were selected to coincide with the show’s February 7th season 4 premiere, and the event will be held at Los Angeles City College, where some exterior shots for the show were filmed during the first season. No word yet on how much tickets will cost. Dan Harmon and some other writers have already expressed interest in attending, and given how much the show’s cast and writers love their fans, I’m sure you can expect a decent number of Greendale folks to show up. Follow CommuniCon on Twitter and Tumblr for further updates. Unfortunately, it looks like the first year of CommuniCon will not feature a campus-wide paintball fight nor a campus-wide blanket fort. Maybe 2014.
Here’s a list of possible events from the convention’s Tumblr:
- Panel of cast, writers and/or crew- Giving Dan Harmon a microphone and getting out of his way for a while- Signing/meet and greet with cast, writers and/or crew- Community trivia games- Costume contest and/or “parade”- Show-related activities, such as: (small) blanket fort building, scheduled group hugs, yahtzee, foosball, karaoke, pop ‘n’ lock-a-thon, video game station with Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne- Fan-art available for purchase- Episode marathon with live commentary by writers, cast, and/or crew
