‘The Mindy Project’ Shakes Up Its Cast

Fox’s first-year comedy The Mindy Project is going through some retooling. Two of the show’s cast members, Anna Camp (who plays Mindy’s best friend Gwen) and Amanda Setton (who plays Shauna, the office’s New Jersey girl) both won’t be series regulars anymore, according to TVLine. Camp will still appear on the show in a recurring capacity, while Setton will be exiting the series altogether. Camp is leaving to pursue other acting roles (she recently appeared in the hit Pitch Perfect and had a recurring role on The Good Wife), while Setton is departing for “creative reasons.” The Mindy Project is introducing a new female character soon -  Mindy’s tomboy college friend - although the role has not yet been cast. Casting changes aren’t new to the series - Stephen Tobolowsky replaced Richard Schiff after the first pilot (although Schiff remains in one scene of the final pilot) and Amanda Setton and recurring guest Ike Barinholtz were also added after the original pilot. On top of all that, Tobolowksy hasn’t been MIA since the show’s second episode, meaning that The Mindy Project has had probably the most inconsistent ensemble in sitcom history.
