Elton John has completed work on his latest offering, The Diving Board, a thirteen-track collaboration with lyricist Bernie Taupin. “It’s my most adult album,” said John, who told reporters that he tried to incorporate “everything I love about American music: gospel, soul, country.” According to Rolling Stone, highlights include “a melancholy ballad about dead soldiers” (“Oceans Away”); “a cabaret tale of sliding into decadence” (“My Quicksand”); and the title track, which apparently “feels like it could stop the world spinning for five minutes.” John also described Diving Board as “the most piano-oriented album of my career,” which is saying a lot.
