Anchorman director/co-writer Adam McKay tweeted last night that Kristen Wiig is officially on board for the sequel. This comes after word that Wiig was in negotiations for a role in Anchorman 2 back in December. Wiig will play the love interest of Steve Carell’s dense weatherman Brick Tamland. So far, she’s the only new cast member to officially sign on to the movie, joining returning stars Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner. Production is set to begin next month for a December 20th, 2013 release. Adam McKay said a few months ago, “We’re talking about for Anchorman 2 creating a murderer’s row of the best day players ever. Like having every single one line or three line role, just be someone we just love. Someone like Ian Roberts or Rob Huebel or Paula Killen — just making sure every day player is a homerun.” So, now that Kristen Wiig is officially a part of the movie, expect Anchorman 2 to continue to gobble up every funny person in America over the next couple months, with plenty more exciting cast additions like this one on the way.
