Bridesmaids and Mike and Molly’s Melissa McCarthy has her first movie in which she has a starring role, Identity Theft, coming out tomorrow, and she’s already set up her own production company with her husband, writer/actor Ben Falcone. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McCarthy and Falcone’s company is called On the Day and has three movie projects in the works. They are:
Michelle Darnell - Based on an original character created by McCarthy and on a story written by McCarthy and Falcone, the plot for this movie is under wraps. McCarthy and Falcone will write the script with fellow Groundlings alum Steve Mallory.
Cousin Irv from Mars - Based on an upcoming book of the same name from Bruce Eric Kaplan, a New Yorker cartoonist, producer on Girls, and Seinfeld writer, Cousin Irv from Mars tells the story of a boy and his weird cousin who is from - you guessed it - Mars.
Just Do It - The story of a long-married couple’s attempts to rekindle their relationship with a 101-day sex marathon, based on Douglas Brown’s memoir Just Do It: How One Couple Turned Off the TV and Turned On Their Sex Lives for 101 Days (No Excuses!). McCarthy is attached to play a role, and she and Falcone will write the script.
