The Vine 5 Film Festival: Beginnings, Endings, and Jell-O

Vine is the cool new toy from Twitter that challenges users to make the most profound work ever committed to video in exactly six seconds. Or at the very least, challenges the masses to bring a little more laughter into this world. On Tuesdays we’ll be screening five of the funniest shorts of the past week, until Vine is abandoned for the next new thing.

It is only our third installment and already we have a retraction of sorts! Keply Pentland emailed us to say that her disturbingly funny Vine that we featured last week - in which cute little critters claim that some people are too dumb to ever learn anything - was taken right from a long running animated series called Moomins, without any manipulation of dialogue whatsoever. Kind of horrifying stuff.

“The Hamdshake” starring Shelby Fero

By Thing X

Meeting new people can be difficult sometimes. And sometimes it is flat out gross.

“The Argument”

By Michael & David Zuker

Modern Family executive producer David Zuker confirms what we have long suspected - children respect the Emmy.

“JELL-O FORTUNE”

By Abbi Crutchfield

Crutchfield exposed what is really inside that suspiciously malleable, magical concoction. The ghost of Upton Sinclair approves; the Church of Cosby frowns.

“Oscar Party ‘76”

By James Urbaniak

Poor Bound for Glory, the only one of the five movies up for Best Picture at the 1976 Academy Awards that isn’t known by virtually everyone over a certain age, and not even mentioned by one of Urbaniak’s time traveling friends due to time constraints or a random dislike of Woody Guthrie.

“Friday Power”

By Robotic Willy

Fridays truly give us that extra natural energy we need to go crazy and catch up on Enlightened before a 12 hour nap to compensate from those energy drink fueled insomnia filled weekdays. FRIDAY!
