Christina Hendricks will star in Campbell Scott’s film adaptation of Joan Didion’s novel A Book of Common Prayer. According to Variety, Hendricks has signed on to play Charlotte Douglas, an American woman who finds herself in the fictional Central American country Boca Grande, hoping to find her 19-year-old political revolutionary daughter. Prayer does not really scream out for a movie version — so much of it relies on description and narration, which tend not to translate well — but Joan from Mad Men doing Joan Didion is pretty damn promising.
