MTV Marathoning Old Real World This Weekend

The newest incarnation of The Real World draws ever closer: The Real World: Portland debuts Wednesday, March 27. In honor of the 28th season, MTV is digging into the vaults and re-airing three “classic” Real Worlds, from simpler times. The Real World: New York — the original, 1992 one — will marathon starting Friday, March 22, at 8 p.m. To continue the couch lock, The Real World: Las Vegas — season 12, 2002 — follows, starting Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m.; and finally, The Real World: San Francisco — season three, 1994 — begins Sunday, March 24, at 8 a.m. Sadly, no Seattle or New Orleans, which everyone knows are the best two seasons ever.

But New York and SF especially really had their moments. They were part of the old-school Real World, the pre-reality-boom era, when there was still a modicum of sincerity to the proceedings and the cast members had grown up in a world where “confessional” meant a booth at Catholic church, not a room reservered for talking-head shit-stirring. Ah, the good old days.
