Andrew Lloyd Webber Is Making a ‘School of Rock’ Musical

A decade after its release, the Jack Black movie School of Rock may become the basis for a big Broadway musical. During an interview last week, Dame Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber revealed that he’s acquired the rights to the 2003 movie and hopes to bring it to the stage. Says Webber, “Another thing that I’ve just got the rights to that I am very excited about … is that movie School of Rock.” The movie’s soundtrack featured songs from Led Zeppelin, The Who, Cream, The Doors, and a ton of other classic rock groups, and Webber intends to use a lot of this music. “There may be songs for me in it,” he explains, “But it’s obviously got songs in it as it stands.” Webber didn’t mention how far along his School of Rock adaptation is, so we’ll just see if it beats the Mean Girls musical and the Animal House musical to the stage.
